Friday Finds in Directories: 21 August 2015

Recently, I found the following articles regarding historical directories:

• 8 More Vital Record Alternatives by Lindsay Fulton at Vita Brevis - yes, you guessed it: one of the alternatives in city directories. Lindsay gives an excellent example.
• This Underused Resource May Have the Family History Details You’ve Been Looking For by the author at the Family History Daily blog - Good tips, and I don't just recommend it because it mentions the Online Historical Directories Website!
• Who Do You Think You Are? Recap: Following the Clues with Ginnifer Goodwin by the team at the Ancestry.com blog - here's how city directories were used to find Ginnifer Goodwin's great-grandmother
• Tuesday's Tip-–Street Guide included in City Directories-Have you used this handy resource? by Diane Gould Hall at Michigan Family Trails - there's more to the city directories than just the listing of names

For pages on my site related to the above articles, visit Shelby County, Tennesee Online Historical Directories and Wayne County, Michigan Online Historical Directories. Both pages are currently incomplete, so you'll also want to check out my Resources page to find more.

New Pages and Updates - Part 2

It's been a year since I've posted updates. I have done a lot of work this past year, but realized that I had not notified my readers via this blog about them. Two most notable changes: the Eve N Don directory site not only changed its name to Don's List after his wife Eve passed away, it also changed its URL (web address). It took quite a bit of time for me to make the appropriate changes to this site. The second change was when the BYU Digital Books site changed to FamilySearch Books. I'm not done changing all those links. Meantime, you can check them out at FamilySearch Books and do a search for "directory." Additionally, the site Old Directory Search is now offline. I've started to remove some of the dead links, but again, have not gotten to all of them.
